About

Inspired by molded plywood furniture and a Le Corbusier lamp, I wanted to design a high quality tape dispenser. Since the tape dispenser is already a permanent object on many desks, I was motivated to create a product that functioned with the permanence and simplicity of well made furniture. Materials were chosen naturally due to the necessity of weight distribution and the user experience I wanted to create.

Refinement and Prototyping

I started the process by making a 3D model of the cement piece. I attempted to make a 3D printed mold which turned out to be inefficient. My second attempt was more successful, this time using a foamboard mold. Next I created a mold for the wood veneer. After pressing and gluing the veneer, I used a piece of steel plasma, backed with grippy material. Finally, I put everything together with clear epoxy.
