About

I wanted to create a chair that was sustainable for both the environment and for the localized economy. This led me to use materials that were renewable such as plywood and eco-felt. It also led me to create a design that can easily be manipulated quickly and effectively in local shops with a CNC machine allowing the customer to choose custom finishes and cushion and seat materials.

After finalizing the design, I went into CAD and create the geometry for the CNC as well as a 3D model I used to visualize the product. After that, I used Vetric Aspire to develop the tool paths and proceeded to cut out the chair out of a single sheet of 4x8 plywood. I designed the chair to easily be locked and glued together while keeping joints hidden. Finally, after applying a black stain, matte finish, and upholstering the high-density foam cushions the chair was done.
