Flume

A beautiful multi-use product for developing countries.

About

I was assigned to design a product for developing countries using a one dollar LED lamp. After researching different needs, I learned that indoor smoke as the byproduct of open fires is one of the most widespread issues in developing countries as it kills millions of people each year. I decided to address the smoke problem by creating an effective product that resembles a piece of furniture. Many times "elegant" design is not something considered when designing for developing countries, I felt that something elegant enrich the users' life in both form and function regardless of where they were born.
